Ukulele Chords

The ukulele's reentrant tuning (the G string is tuned higher than the C string in standard GCEA) creates a unique voicing character that sets it apart from guitar. ChordColor accounts for this by generating voicings that reflect how ukulele chords actually sound -- with that high G weaving through the chord rather than sitting below it. Four tunings are available: Standard GCEA, Low G (linear tuning with G dropped an octave), D Tuning (ADF#B, two frets higher than standard), and Baritone DGBE (matching the top four guitar strings).

Interval colors reveal why certain ukulele chords feel different from their guitar counterparts. An open C major on ukulele contains the notes C-E-G-C, but the reentrant G sits between the E and high C, creating a close-voiced cluster. The color visualization makes these voicing details visible at a glance.

Baritone and Low G Tuning

Switching to Baritone DGBE tuning gives you the same chord shapes as the top four strings of a guitar -- helpful for guitarists picking up the ukulele. Low G tuning replaces the reentrant G with a linear low G, extending the range downward and making fingerpicking patterns more conventional. ChordColor recalculates all voicings for each tuning automatically.
