LinnStrument 128

The LinnStrument 128 is the compact version of Roger Linn's isomorphic MPE controller, featuring an 8x16 pad grid instead of the full-size 8x25. Despite the smaller footprint, it supports the same expressive playing surface and layout options. ChordColor maps chord intervals across the 128-pad grid in both Perfect 4ths and Major 3rds tunings, showing the same transposable chord shapes that make isomorphic layouts powerful for learning and performing.

The 128's reduced width means the note range per row is narrower -- 16 semitones instead of 25 -- but the row-to-row interval relationship is identical to the 200. Chord shapes that fit within 16 columns work exactly the same way on both models. ChordColor's visualization helps you see which chord voicings fit within the 128's column range and which require repositioning compared to the larger model.

Portable Isomorphic Performance

The 128 is popular among traveling musicians and producers who need an expressive controller that fits in a backpack. Connect it via USB to use ChordColor's WebMIDI input, and your physical playing will light up the on-screen grid with interval colors in real time. This visual feedback is especially valuable when learning the isomorphic layout, as it reinforces the geometric relationship between pitch intervals and physical pad positions.
