The Perfect Fifth (Blue)

Understand the perfect fifth — the most consonant interval after the octave.

Instructions

  1. Set Level 2 on Guitar. Select C Major.
  2. Find the blue dots — those are Perfect 5th (P5) notes, 7 half steps above the root.
  3. Now select a Power Chord (C5). Only the root (red) and fifth (blue) remain.
  4. Power chords use just R + P5 — no third, so they sound neither major nor minor.
  5. The P5 appears in almost every chord type. It's the "glue" of harmony.
TIP

The perfect fifth is 7 half steps (or 3.5 whole steps) above the root. On guitar, it's always 2 frets up on the next thicker string.
