Minor vs Major Scale

Compare the natural minor scale to the major scale and see which intervals change.

Instructions

  1. Set Level 3, Scale mode, Guitar. Select A Major scale.
  2. Note the colors: R, M2, M3 (yellow), P4, P5, M6, M7.
  3. Now switch to A Natural Minor.
  4. Three intervals flatted: M3 → m3 (yellow → orange), M6 → m6 (purple → darker), M7 → m7 (pink → darker).
  5. Play both scales and hear how the flattened intervals create a sadder, darker sound.
TIP

The natural minor scale formula is W-H-W-W-H-W-W. Compare to major (W-W-H-W-W-W-H) — 3 notes are lowered by a half step.
