CAGED Box Positions

Learn the 5 CAGED positions to play scales anywhere on the fretboard.

Instructions

  1. Set Level 3, Scale mode, Guitar. Select G Major scale.
  2. Below the scale picker, find the CAGED buttons: E, D, C, A, G.
  3. Click "E" — this highlights the E-shape box position. Only notes in this box are colored.
  4. Click "D" — the box shifts up the neck. Each position covers 4-5 frets.
  5. Go through all 5: E, D, C, A, G. Notice how they tile the entire fretboard.
  6. The positions overlap by 1-2 frets — these shared notes are transition points between boxes.
TIP

CAGED stands for the 5 open chord shapes: C, A, G, E, D. Each shape creates a box position for scales. Learning all 5 gives you the entire fretboard.
